Hamlet, The Prince

Hamlet is the protagonist of the story, and his objective is to take revenge for his father's death by killing Claudius after finding out the truth about his death by meeting his father's ghost in person. He is brave and smart and his planning is what allows him to finally take revenge on Claudius. He is also a great swordsman in combat.


Claudius, The King

Claudius is the antagonist of this story, he is the brother of the old king and his betrayer. He killed the old king by pouring poison into his ears while he was asleep. Claudius tries to kill Hamlet in any way, as he notices he's found out about his betrayal, but in the end Hamlet outsmarts him and manages to get revenge. Claudius greedy and violent, but also smart in planning.


Gertrude, The Queen

Gertrude is the wife of the new and old king. She was the wife of the old king before his death, and she remarried with his brother after he died. She is fooled by Claudius, who she marries unknowingly of his betrayal. Hamlet tells her the truth and she doesn't trust Claudius anymore, but unfortunately she is killed accidentally during the fight between Hamlet and Laertes. She is a woman who is easily deceived.


Polonius, The Councilor

Polonius is the king's councilor and Ophelia's dad. He works for the king and spies on Hamlet since the start of the story, but in the end he is killed by Hamlet when he finds out he is a spy.


Ophelia, The Lover

Ophelia is Polonius's daughter and Hamlet's lover. Both her and Hamlet are in love with eachother, but Hamlet's quest to avenge his father leads him to fake being crazy and abbandon her. Ophelia, heart broken, commits suicide in a river after this.



Laertes, The Avenger

Laertes is Polonius's son and Ophelia's brother. He comes back to Denmark after his father and sister's death. He blames their deaths on Hamlet, so he swears to kill him for the king and for his family. He challenges Hamlet to a friendly duel, where he wants to murder Hamlet with a poisonous sword, but in the end they both stab eachother with it and both die after the poison sets in.


Horatio, The Hope

Horatio is Hamlet's best friend and the man he trusts the most. Hamlet would confide with Horatio during hard times, and plan with him how to reveal the king's betrayal. In the end, when Hamlet is dying, Hamlet tells him to live on and spread the truth about the king's betrayal, in hopes of it never happening again. He is a very loyal man, and he keeps great memories of Hamlet after his death.


Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, The King's Men

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are two of the king's courtiers. They work for the king, and are the ones supposed to take Hamlet to England. They are also student friends of Hamlet, but they still work for the king to betray him.
